Yachts: Sunday Cruise To Kincardine

21st September

Instead of visiting a harbour, well aim to get close to Kincardine Bridge and go around the yellow special-purpose buoy that's a few hundred metres downstream of it. This will be in memory of the late Ian Cameron, who always liked to go around something when he went sailing!

High water at Rosyth will be at 1534 BST, and the height of tide will be 4.9m, so the tidal current will be strong - up to 2.6 knots: hence the decision to go up-river with the tide. The straight-line distance is about 11.5 nautical miles, so the suggested departure time is 1130BST, after meeting in the clubhouse at 1045. So that it really is a cruise "in company", we should all try to leave about the same time. If the wind speed and direction on the day put Kincardine out of reach, alternative go-around targets include a derelict structure off the southern shore near Grangemouth, or one of the many lateral channel markers. We can have fun back at the clubhouse comparing notes on how well we did. The passage is very straightforward, with few nasties to worry about. Note, though, that the shipping channel is very narrow up there, so stay alert for ships, and keep out of their way.

Skippers intending to participate are invited to  book their boat in for the cruise here  . There will no central crew allocation so, skippers, invite your preferred crew, and crew: ask your favourite skippers for a place. This can also be done on the PEYC crew finder Whatsapp group.
