Benefits of Membership
Once you are a member, you can quickly involved in our cruising evenings and weekends, 707 sailing, and Theory & Practice Sessions You can book further "mentored sessions" like the Taster Session, for a modest fee where you can gain confidence. Once you have some sailing experience you can move quickly onto Dinghy sailing or Yacht racing or cruising. For those with sufficient experience, once you have been assessed and become an "accredited helm", we have a cruising yacht (Eurobo), two Hunter 707 keelboats and three dinghies which members can use.
If you are a complete novice and want to get into yacht and dinghy sailing quickly then we strongly recommend you attend an RYA course at an RYA Recognised Training Centre. We are lucky because we have such a centre right on our doorstep. Port Edgar Watersports (PEW). PEW offer Keelboat Sailing and Dinghy Sailing courses specifically for novices. We recommend their Level 1 Start Sailing and Level 2 Basic Skills courses in both yachts and dinghies. On the Yacht course, they use Hunter 707s; the same as our own club owned boats. One of the benefits of membership is that PEYC members are able to book PEW courses at a discount.
If you are going out on the water, its important you come prepared. Suitable (warm) clothing, waterproofs, shoes, gloves and hats are important. A lifejacket is essential - if you haven't got one then we will be able to find one for those on a taster session. We can provide advice when you first approach us if you are not sure. If you have any general questions then contact us by email.
