Yacht Racing

There are regular club races on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons as scheduled in the Calendar.  Further details are to be found in the in the Racing Organisation menu below where you will find the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.   Open race events are held two or three times per year for the Hunter 707 Class and details can be found in Major Events.   

  As a member, once your yacht details are in your membership profile,  you can enter the club races from the page in the Calendar.  The club also hosts Major Open events for the Hunter 707 class.  Details of these events can be found at Open Events.

The Club fully supports the RYA Racing Charter and has an open policy, encouraging a wide variety of boats with handicap racing based on Portsmouth Yardstick.  In 2024, the racing fleet is split into three : Division 1 PY<975, Division 2 Hunter 707s and Division 3 PY>/=975

Yachts racing range from 20 to 49 feet in length, with a growing fleet of Hunter 707 one-design keelboats, including one owned by the Club. In 2024, the club also intends to race the 33ft Ronautica "Eurobo".  

PEYC runs 80% of its racing on a Rolling Handicap system that partially tracks boat performance and generates tight, competitive series racing. There is a Race results page and Handicaps information are in the Racing Organisationsection.

The Clubs prize allocation system ensures wide recognition at the end of each season when plaques unique to PEYC are presented. 

Our committee boat (CB), Beamer - an Arvor 21, enables us to lay accurate start lines set at 90 deg to the wind.  Designated CB drivers and helpers operate a CB rota to manage the races.  There is also a race officers cabin at the end of the main pier in Port Edgar, with a fixed start/finish line to allow races to be run from the shore.

All boats that enter the club race events are expected to help out with race officer duties, which are scheduled in the Officer of the Day (OOD) rota.
