RYA Marine VHF Course

7th July, 9:30am - 6:00pm

RYA Marine  SRC VHF Course

A course and exam for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio either fixed or hand held.

The course covers the basics of radio operation, frequencies, distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures, making ship to shore telephone calls, Digital Selective Calling and the Global Maritime Distress Safety System.

The exam consists of a written theory paper and assessment in the practical use of marine VHF radios.

The course starts 09:30 and runs to 16:00. The exam follows shortly after and finishes at 18:00

This course will be run by Port Edgar Water Sports  for the club and is available to members for about half price for the tuition part of the course (£70).  There is also a fixed charge for the RYA course materials (£20) and the RYA licence (£70)
