Theory and Practise

Theory Practice Sessions differ from other "skills" sessions offered by PEYC.

While TPS does cover basic boat handling every time we take a boat out, the focus is more on the additional skills needed by both skipper and crew.  Such skills include passage planning, why a bowline is not the only knot you need, practicing the ColRegs, lights and shapes, practical experience with unusual situations like towing and rafting, MOB recovery, anchoring in a current, getting on and off the berth in challenging circumstances.  TPS is ideal practice for anyone doing or consolidating an RYA practical course.

TPS sessions can be found in the club calendar and booked form there. The topic  for each session can be requested by the participants.
