Beamer - Club Committee Boat Crewing

I am Eric Cessford and manage the maintenance & crewing for the PEYC Committee boat Beamer. As usual each year we gain some crewing volunteers and lose some (peoples lives get in the way & some just want to sail!)

Fancy lending a hand, or do you know someone who would like some time on the water? Perhaps you have a retired relative with idle time on their hands.

More info below.

Typical Beamer race event outings = 37 per year (15 Wed evenings (18.30 - 21.00 approx), 15 Sundays & 7 Saturdays). Obviously you are not obliged to attend all of the trips, as we try to share them amongst all of the crew members and recognise we all have busy lives outside of PEYC.

Also, Beamer lays the race marks at the beginning of the season, maintains them throughout the year and retrieves them in Dec.

The racing calendar is Easter to the week before Xmas.

No need to have an understanding of yacht racing, as there is a Race Officer & Team on board each time to organise, manage & record the race.

We always aim to have a skipper & helper on board. That means the Skipper can concentrate on driving, handling the boat, knowing he/she has an experienced helper to assist with on board tasks.

If after 2 - 3 outings a person decides they want to join the crew, then they would have to join the club for insurance purposes. Cheapest membership is £75 (cruising).

Once a person gains enough experience and feels confident they can become a skipper.
