Crew Finder
The website provides a facility to allow people to register their availability to sail and race or skippers to register a need for crew. Using Crewfinder, you can:
- Mark yourself as available for crewing, OR
- Find out who might be available and willing to crew for you in your boat, OR
- Let other members know you're looking for a crew.
Entering your details does not mean you are making any commitments. You are just enabling another member to get in touch. You can also make your offer for a period of time, for an event or switch it off whenever you like.
For Crew
To start with Crewfinder, log into the website, go to "My Membership" and find the Crewfinder section. Click on "My Availability" and select the option to become available. You'll be invited to fill in details, dates and also a description of your experience and what sort of sailing you want to do. Thereafter, in Crewfinder lists, or for any races where Crewfinder is switched on, you'll be on the list of people for skippers to contact.
For Skippers
From the same Crewfinder section in "My Membership", click on "Crew Wanted" and select which boat you sail that is in need of crew. Yes, you will need to enter your boat into the system first using the "My Boats" section. The details are quite similar as for crew; dates and experience. Thereafter, in Crewfinder lists, or for any races where Crewfinder is switched on, you'll be on the list of boats for crew to contact.
Matching
The Crewfinder matching system works in two ways. One is in the "My Membership" Crewfinder section where clicking on "Crew Available" brings up lists of people looking for boats and boats looking for people.
The second is to do all of this through an event rather than the "My Membership" option. This means you are being specific about the event where you are offering to be crew or to take crew rather than a period of time. Note that the website lists for crew and boats in events are due to change and will be initially limited to listing people and boats who have explicitly stated they are available for that event with a secondary list available of all people and boats generally available over time. This implies that making yourself available for a specific event gives you a better chance of getting a match. This change is due from the system providers in the 2024 season.
